Are We a Spirit When We Die?

I know that there are a lot of people today that believe that when you die you become a spirit, without a body, a vapor mass, destined to float in space forever. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t appeal to me at all!

I am not sure where this philosophy came from. I do know that the Bible tells a whole bunch about the new heavenly bodies that we will be receiving. The Bible says that when we see Jesus we will be like Him. After Jesus was resurrected the first thing He did with His new body when He came back to the surface of the Earth was to show it off to His Disciples. When you bought your first brand new car, I’ll bet the first thing you did was to take it to your family and or friends house to show it off.

Before the Disciples had realized that Jesus was resurrected they were gathered behind locked doors hiding from the Romans in fear that they would receive the same punishment as Jesus when suddenly, Jesus appeared in the middle of the room, in front of all the Disciples except Thomas. This clearly shows that our new bodies will be able to travel without limitations.

The Bible then says that the "Disciples terrified and frightened supposing that they had seen a spirit. So Jesus asked why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet that it is I, Myself. Handle me and see for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have. When he had said this he showed them his hands and feet but while they still did not believe he said to them “have you any food here?” So they gave him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb and he took it and ate it in their presence."

Jesus did all this to show His Disciples not that He was hungry from all His adventures but that this is what the Disciples can look forward to with their new bodies. You will be able to travel without the need of a car or airplane. You will also still eat food. I know that most people believe that eating will be done away with. The Bible says that the first event in heaven is going to be the “marriage supper of the Lamb” I don’t know about you but I know that it would sure be a boring supper if we couldn’t eat!

There are so many truths in the Bible that people have gotten wrong. I don’t know if they are just guessing or maybe they are reading a bad translation. It is a necessity to get a Bible that has a proven translation. I use the “New king James Version” because it uses new English and was translated directly from the “King James Version” which has been proven for accuracy.
