The Falling Away
I grew up in a small town in Northern California. When I was 10 years old, back in 1963, my friend Dave and I were walking down my street on the way to my house. As we were walking I pointed out to Dave that the people in the house across the street from us didn’t believe in God. Back then that was big news, for you see “everybody believed in God.” As we were walking Dave told me that in the near future most everybody was going to turn their backs on God and become non-believers.
I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it! I never personality meet anyone at that time who didn’t believe in God. How could everybody just turn their backs on God, I wasn’t even religious but I knew that a world that didn’t believe in God anymore would be a very scary place to live.
My friend Dave and his family were Catholics and our family had only been to church once that I can remember. I have always remembered that conversation I had with Dave that day and I vowed that if that ever happened I would not be one of those people who would turn my back on God. I figured at that time that if that came true then his God must be the true God or how else could he predict the future.
That was back in 1963 and I didn’t think at that time that the “falling away” would happen so fast. I have kept my vow to God and wanted to warn everybody as to what is really going on. There are several prophecies concerning the falling away and I wanted to share three of them with you.
2 Th. 2:1, “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless the falling away comes first.”
“that day” the above verse refers to is the day Jesus Christ returns the second time to the Earth.
1 Tim. 4:1, “now the spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.”
And in this last prophecy it shows what the people traded God for.
2 Tim. 3:1-4, “but know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. Unloving, unforgiving, slanders, without self control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, head strong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
Because of the falling away it leads me to the conclusion that we are also in the “last days”. Now just how far mankind is going to fall away from God I am not sure. If you are reading this and you are one of the people who are falling away I strongly urge you right now to come back to God. The farther you fall the harder it will be for you to come back. Do not play around with something as valuable as your soul. You can come back with Gods’ help.
Dt. 4: 30-31 says “When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey his voice. (for the Lord your God is a merciful God) He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.”
1 Jn. 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I pray that anybody reading this, who doesn’t know the love and peace of God in their lives, will pray for help and guidance from the true and living God.
